Possibly, but I'm not the creative sort, I try to make other peoples ideas work. And the last 2 times, people went "can you not just keep it mostly the same" ;)

Headset...
« on: September 03, 2013, 20:50:23 »
Since I still use my old Speedlink-Medusa 5.1-headset, I can't really connect it to this old shite of computer(775-socket)
and add to that I'm on a recording interface(Line6-UX1) which means I can only connect my hearing part, and it partly kills me
a bit not being able to speak english for over a year, both with friends from my older clans and you guys in LLS ofc.

So, recommend me a good headset pls, been looking around in some webstores here in Sweden.
But theres so many to choose from, it's gonna be a headset with USB-connecting and something
that's really good for music-listening, I've looked in to the CM Sirus 5.1, and the newer
Speedlink 5.1.

But again, if you guys have something better to recommend, I'll be going with that surely :)

personally i always recommend non USB but thats a personal choice.

But for price and quality, I would recommend the Creative fatality Headset

I wish I still had my old one of those. Sounded bloody awesome

Why not just keep your current headset and buy a cheap sound card instead? I haven't tried the newer Medusa headsets but the audio specs aren't quite as good in the lower frequency ranges. If you have a spare PCI or PCI-express slot, I would go buy a Soundblaster X-fi card. There's even a USB version of it as well but its a little more expensive and does carry a slight CPU overhead over the internal cards. I'd avoid the 1st gen Creative Recon3D cards (Doobie had issues with it) but I haven't tried the latest iteration of those.

Yeah yeah, I've had a lot of woes over headsets in the past two years  8)

Yup, that headset is pretty good. As is the Plantronics Gamecom range.

I've currently got the Logitech G230 and I'm very happy with the audio quality, good response across all frequencies with a nice deep bass. The microphone is reasonably good but my particular sound card doesn't have a microphone boost function under Windows 7, driver issue.

If you want something with even more grunt and an even better microphone, there's always the higher end Sennheiser headsets. They are quite pricey but I'm sure the guys here can testify to the quality of the microphone given how clearly we can hear Liek when he comes on TeamSpeak.

The above headsets are all stereo 3.5mm jacks. For 5.1 (or 7.1), I'd have to agree with Killa and only use a USB headset if there's no other option. The Windows generic USB audio driver isn't too great and the various 3rd party drivers vary a lot in quality and stability.

Thanks for reminding me, I used to have one of those external small-soundcards earlier.
But I gave it away to a friend last-years summer(this was while the i5-comp still worked).

I also have that Creative Fatal1ty-Soundcard with the Front-panel-stuff(but it's of the older generation)it's still connected
to that i5-monster(big case) and will stay that way.

Instead I decided to place an order on this card: http://www.deltaco.eu/se/product/%28UAC-03%29/DELTACO-USB-ljudkort-anslutning-f%C3%B6r-h%C3%B6rlurar-och-mikrofon-2x35mm-hona-volymkontroll-mute-knappar/

Sorry for the long-link and to it's specification to be in Swedish-only, anyway that soundcard only cost around 9-10 €uros.
Also bought myself one of those USB-memory sticks at 16GB :)

So I guess it's all sorted, now it's just waiting for the mail/package to arrive
then I'll be joining you guys up on TS :D

Well i returned it twice with the same issue each time... I was lucky enough to have a friend give me a creative sound blaster xfi fatal1ty
( one of the older models not the newest ..http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products/xl/002684/2/creative_sound_blaster_xfi_platinum_fatal1ty_champion.jpg )

But now i use a Logitech G930 :)
