Possibly, but I'm not the creative sort, I try to make other peoples ideas work. And the last 2 times, people went "can you not just keep it mostly the same" ;)

Antivirus performance
« on: April 10, 2014, 20:38:54 »
-- snip -- taken from a PM I sent recently, mainly to illustrate how poor Microsoft Security Essentials is --

Here's some results taken from a study done in December

Performance Impact - Lower is better
MSE5.5
AVG2.0
BitDefender1.0
Norton3.5

Detection + Safety - 0 = no protection, n/a = test failed for other reasons
SoftwareLive DetectionPhishingFile DetectionHeuristics
MSE92%0%90%71.7%
BitDefender99.7%97.5%99.5%97.5%
AVG92%n/a98.3%n/a
Norton94%n/a89.7%83.3%

MSE is pants for any non standard virus signature with it's low Heuristics results and it has a high performance impact. Although I'm surprised it beat Norton on File Detection, shows how bad Symantec have gotten these days.

-- snip --

Data taken from AV Comparatives, a non-profit organisation who do regular tests comparing security software. Generally they are seen as the authority on this sort of thing and are heavily involved with the University of Innsbruck.
